The annual Tough as Nails Run returned to Prescott Park on Roxy Ann Peak after a one year hiatus. The Mountain/Trail race was moved from its August date of past years to May 13, to accommodate easier parking and a phenomenal spring wildflower display. Again, as in the past, two events were offered: a 5k run mainly on the gravel loop road, and a terrifically tough ten mile run that utilizes most of Prescott Park’s trails. The number of finishers, 51, was a good increase from past August events, so the Spring date seems to be better overall. No rattlesnakes, bears, or cougars joined the run, deciding to stay far away from such intrepid adventurers.
The course was revised this year because of gravel pit operations, and there was some confusion at one of the junctions, but all-in-all, runners spoke of a great event. It was interesting to hear runners talk of their adventures on the course, and most are already excited about next year’s event. And no one complained that the course wasn’t tough enough. These are the Rogue Valley’s toughest runners after all- they’re all as Tough as Nails.
Respectfully, Clayton ‘Mountain Man’ Gillette
